About Course

This module explores the essential principles and practices for controlling both infectious and chronic diseases. It provides learners with a solid understanding of the epidemiology, prevention, and management strategies needed to combat communicable diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and COVID-19, as well as non-communicable conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. Emphasis is placed on vaccination, disease surveillance, outbreak response, policy development, and community-based interventions. The module also addresses the growing challenges of co-morbidities and the long-term burden of disease in low-resource and high-risk populations.

What Will You Learn?

  • Gain a thorough understanding of how infectious diseases are transmitted, the principles of epidemiology, and the chain of infection.
  • Learn about global and local strategies to control communicable diseases, including vaccination programs, disease surveillance, and outbreak response.
  • Explore the nature, causes, and impact of chronic (non-communicable) diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and respiratory conditions.
  • Understand how to prevent and manage chronic diseases through policy, public health education, screening programs, and community interventions.
  • Examine how co-morbidities and dual disease burdens (infectious + chronic) complicate treatment and impact healthcare systems.
  • Evaluate integrated care models that simultaneously address multiple conditions to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs.
